Multiple Speed Cut-off Cycle

Challenge:

Cut product to different lengths on the line with fixed web speed.

Solution:

Drive the knife roll with elliptical or special function gears, as shown. Changing the input gear relative speed varies the cut-off cycle time, thus altering the length of material that is cut. Adjusting the phasing of the gears relative to the cut-off point will allow the web speed to be matched during the cut.
